June 17, 2020 - 9 a.m.: CAPE CARTERET, BAYSHORE PARK RESIDENTS
June 17, 2020
Due to high water and washout, approximately 25-feet of water main is exposed on Bogue Sound Drive, Cape Carteret. We are throttling back the supply at this moment on Park Ave, Edgewater, and Bogue Sound Drives just enough to relieve this section of water main. Residents of Club Court will likely feel the biggest change. If it is not tolerable, please call us. We will open more supply.
Next, we will be working to remove as much surface water as possible with pumps that are in route now. It is doubtful we will be able to move that much surface water today because there is no where for it to go. It is likely that we will install posts with straps to secure the main to keep it from "jumping up" until the ground water fully subsides. Then, our contractor will deliver rock and soil.
Although we have not experienced main washout anywhere else at this point, surface water is a problem from Cedar Point to Morehead City, Newport, and Stella. We have been unable to access valves, meters, and other appurtenances during the heavy rains in many places So, THANKS for our eyes in the system that makes us aware of problems before we likely would know! Please continue to report any concerns.
